Carla Harris, Wall Street Powerhouse and Author
Carla Harris is a Managing Director in Global Capital Markets at Morgan Stanley. She heads the equity capital markets effort for Consumer, Retail, and East Coast Industrial companies and is responsible for Equity Private Placements. Harris, a Wall Street veteran of twenty years, executed the IPOs for UPS and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia.
Early in her career, Carla sought advice from mentors but received very non-specific advice. She promised herself that when she reached the senior management level, she would provide specific answers and tools to anyone who sought guidance from her to help them fulfill their career potential. Carla's book, "Expect to Win: Proven Strategies for Success from a Wall Street Vet," was released earlier this year by the Penguin Group. The book communicates key survival tools necessary for business success. Each chapter in "Expect to Win" includes Carla’s “pearls”— lessons Harris has acquired during her time on Wall Street that can help contribute to the readers' career success by helping them identify and maneuver through obstacles and challenges in the workplace.
Carla appreciates the value of education, having received her MBA from Harvard Business School and an AB in economics from Harvard University. She also learned to appreciate the opportunities provided by Title IX from her mother, who was an athlete and a coach of girls' athletics.
In addition to her high-powered Wall Street career, Carla is a singer who has released two CDs, a gospel album entitled "Joy is Waiting" and "Carla's First Christmas" which was a big seller on Amazon.com
