"Torres is Tops"
Dara Torres re-wrote the history books at the US Olympic swimming trials, winning both the 100-meter and and 50-meter freestyle events. Torres, who qualified for her fifth Olympic games in Beijing, will be the oldest American to ever swim for the United States. Despite winning the 100-meters, she has opted to focus on the 50-meter event as her only individual competition.
Torres has competed in the 1984, 1988, 1992 and 2000 Games and won nine (9) Olympic medals including four (4) Gold medals. In her early career, she attended the Westlake School for Girls and went on to attend the University of Florida where she received 28 All-American honors. Torres has a two-year old daughter named Tessa.
