"Golf for Women" Magazine Shuts Down

Conde Nast Publications has announced that it is shuttering its "Golf for Women" magazine.  The July/August issue will be the last for the publication.  Top editor Susan Reed will become the editor-in-chief for O, The Oprah Magazine.

"Golf for Women" launched in 1988 and was bought by Conde Nast in 2001.  Throughout its two-decade existence, the publication was an advocate for women golfers and their unique interests and issues from equipment, instruction and course design to fashion, personalities, and club policies.   Conde Nast also publishes Golf Digest and GolfWorld.

Despite its 600,000 subscriber base, Conde Nast noted that "Golf for Women" would not support the company's long-term business objectives.  Ad pages for the publication fell 35% in the first quarter of 2008.
