"Silver Streak"
Dara Torres completed an improbable Olympic run by winning three (3) Silver medals during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Torres had her best individual performance, winning a Silver medal in the 50-meter freestyle event. She missed winning the Gold medal by one-hundreth of a second. She also competed on two relay teams, both of which won Silver medals.
Dara Torres re-wrote the history books at the US Olympic swimming trials, winning both the 100-meter and and 50-meter freestyle events. Torres, who qualified for her fifth Olympic games in Beijing, is the oldest American to ever swim for the United States. Despite qualifying for the 100-meters Olympic event, she opted to focus on the 50-meter event as her only individual competition.
Torres also competed in the 1984, 1988, 1992 and 2000 Games and has twelve (12) Olympic medals including four (4) Gold medals. In her early career, she attended the Westlake School for Girls and went on to attend the University of Florida where she received 28 All-American honors. Torres has a two-year old daughter named Tessa.
