"Unite as a Single Party With A Single Purpose"

On Tuesday evening, at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Sen. Hilary Clinton asked her supporters to "unite as a single party with a single purpose" and support Sen. Barack Obama in his bid to become the next Presdient of the United States.  Clinton encoraged her supporters to remember that they were not just in the campaign solely for Clinton  but also for all underserved Americans:  " I want you to ask yourselves: Were you in this campaign just for me? Or were you in it for that young Marine and others like him? Were you in it for that mom struggling with cancer while raising her kids? Were you in it for that boy and his mom surviving on the minimum wage? Were you in it for all the people in this country who feel invisible?"

Clinton's campaign was a historic run for a female Presidential candidate, garnering over 18 million votes through out the primary season.  She won a total of 23 primaries and caucuses, more than any other woman in history.  In her remarks, she noted the progress made thorugh the generations as her mother was not allowed to vote but her daughter Chelsea, who introduced her on Tuesday night, was able to vote for her for President.

In deference to her historic campaign, Clinton's name was placed in nomination on the floor of the DNC on Wednesday but, continuing her message to unite the party and surrounded by the New York state delegation, she asked that state-by-state voting be suspended so that Sen. Obama could be chosen by acclamation.
