In a history-making night for Hollywood, Summit Entertainment's "The Hurt Locker" overwhelmed the competition at the 82nd annual Academy Awards ceremony, winning six Oscars including best picture and best director for Kathryn Bigelow -- the first female director to ever receive the honor. 

 

Bigelow had previously won the BAFTA Award for Best Director, continuing her to momentum to become the first female director to the win the Academy Award in this category.   Bigelow's BAFTA recognition was also the first for a female director. Similar to its haul at the Academy Awards, "The Hurt Locker won six BAFTA Awards during including Best Director and Best Picture.  In addition to her BAFTA Award, Bigelow also won the DGA Award for best-directed feature film The DGA feature film win was a first-ever by a woman.
