Teen Voices AMPLIFY!

"License to Thrive:  Title IX at 35" Executive Producer Theresa Moore was the keynote speaker for the Teen Voices AMPLIFY! fundraising event on April 9 in Boston.  Moore discussed the "License to Thrive" project and how participants in the Teen Voices programs represent the power and potential that education provides to young women.

Teen Voices was founded in 1998 by two young women in Cambridge, MA, who believed in the power of girls to create social change through writing and art.  Teen Voices offer a variety of programs and publishes Teen Voices print and online magazines.  Teen Voices has a print readership of approximately 54,000 readers and an annual average of 7.6 million hits to their website, www.teenvoices.com.

Teen Voices offers several unique programs including:

SHOUT! (Sisters Helping Other Unheard Teens) - a journalism mentoring program that produces Teen Voices magazine and Teen Voices online.

Girls LEAD (Leadership, Education, Activism and Diversity) - a series of small group experiences and larger group workshops to reach Boston-area teen girls not participating in SHOUT!  Through various activities and events, Girls LEAD encourages Boston teens to engage in conversations regarding social justice, community activism and leadership development.

Pens of Power - this initiative encourages educators and youth workers to use Teen Voices content and activities as a part of their curriculum and to engage more girls to write about issues important to them.

Also, in July 2005, Teen Voices launched a technology initiative as a way to increase the capacity to publish more girls' writings and to teach girls important technology and publishing skills.
